State funding lifts Gila Community Food Bank

Posted

On Friday, July 5 Arizona State Representative David Cook and the United Food Bank of Mesa joined the Gila Community Food Bank for their monthly food distribution at Walmart.  The veteran lawmaker’s efforts in 2023 led to $250,000 in state funding going to support the needs of the food bank.

“We were long overdue for an update, and we couldn’t have done it without this funding,” said Board President Rula Colvin.

The funding, included in the fiscal year 2024 state budget, was used to purchase additional refrigerators and freezers, a refrigerated van for transporting food, new tablets, and much needed food.  The funding also supported critical structural improvements to the building and warehouse and improvements to the property.
