The Globe High School Tigers varsity football team won convincingly in their Homecoming game last Friday, blowing out the visiting St. John Paul II Catholic Lions 54-8.

The Tigers were dominant in the first half, outscoring the Lions 23-0 in the first quarter and 24-0 in the second for a 47-point halftime lead. The second half was a lower-scoring affair, as the teams combined for 15 points. The Lions took the third quarter 8-0 and Globe won the fourth 7-0.

Globe’s ground game paved the way to victory, as the Tigers racked up eight rushing touchdowns. Senior running back Aiden Bejarano and junior quarterback Jaeger Franco each ran for two scores. Bejarano had 121 yards on just six carries, and Franco added 71 yards on five runs. The Tigers also got rushing TDs from junior Mario Guerrero, senior Ryan Szpotowski, senior Esteban Garcia and senior Trentin Goss. On defense, freshman Ben Layton notched 12 tackles. As a team, the Tigers recorded 10 tackles for losses – three each by Garcia and senior Jaxson Olmstead.

With the win, the Tigers’ record stands at 2-5. Globe holds sixth place in Section 2A Black with an 0-3 record.

Next up for Globe is an October 11 road game against the ALA-Anthem South Titans, who are also 2-5.
