Harold Benjamin

Harold B. Benjamin was born March 4, 1924 in Santa Rita, N.M.  Five months after his 100th  birthday celebration, he passed away, on Aug. 13, 2024 at the home of his son, Michael. He was an amazing man and accomplished many things throughout his lifetime. 

He joined the Navy in December 1942 and became a torpedoman 3rd class on the USS Pennywell.  At the end of the war, he returned to Miami and finished high school.  He met the love of his life, Dorothy Benselin, on graduation night and they married in 1947.  He worked for Inspiration Consolidated Copper Company, he ran a service station in Miami, he owned a produce business in Pima, AZ. and worked for Lockheed Aircraft in California.  He eventually settled back into the mining industry in Miami as a master mechanic.  After holding many different positions in the mining industry, he worked his way up and eventually became the manager of the Christmas Mine.  When the Christmas Mine closed, he came back to Miami and that’s where he retired.

Harold was an active member of the Masonic Lodge, the Order of the Eastern Star, Elks, Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary, and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, often in leadership positions. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Hilda Benjamin, his sisters, Francis Lashley and Naomi Bodine and wife Dorothy of 72 years.  He is survived by his children, Linda Soderman (John), Michael Benjamin (MargaretAnn), Harold Benjamin (Diana), seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on August 23, 2024: Viewing at 9 a.m. and service at 10 a.m. with graveside service immediately following at Pinal Mountain Cemetery.
