The Miami football team evened its record with an impressive 21-0 win at Arete Prep on Friday.
The Vandals used a strong running game to control the game, as they racked up 248 rushing yards. Larenz Combs led Miami with 83 yards on the ground, while twins Angel Pena (82 yards) and Jaime Pena (69 yards) also found success running the ball.
Daniel Gutierrez threw a 25-yard touchdown pass, while Nick Curiel made all three extra point attempts.
In their Homecoming game against Payson on Sept. 2, the Vandals lost 24-8. Miami held up well defensively but was not able to score any offensive points. Abram Castaneda scored Miami’s lone touchdown with a 71-yard pick six.
The Vandals continue their season Friday when they play at Coronado (Scottsdale).
