Tigers notch second shutout win

Posted

The Globe High School Tigers set the tone early in last week’s home football game with the Greyhills Academy Fightin’ Knights, going on to record their second straight runaway victory. The Tigers’ defense swarmed over the visiting team from the opening possession – a possession that included several penalties on the Knights, and ended in a fumbled punt snap and a safety for the Tigers. Globe followed this up with three touchdowns and a 2-point conversion to build a 23-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Three second-quarter scores gave the Tigers a 41-0 halftime lead: a punt return TD, a TD catch-and-run by Ryan Szpotowski and a rushing TD by Esteban Garcia. The only question left was the final score; the game ended 55-0, with Garcia and Johnnie Tarango adding rushing touchdowns of 20 and 35 yards in the second half.

The Tigers are now 2-0, with shutouts in both wins, and 1-0 in Section 2A Black. Next on their schedule is a trip to Gilbert for a Sept. 1 non-section matchup with the 1-1 Arete Prep Chargers.
