The Globe Tigers baseball team went 1-2 last week, picking up a win over the Alchesay Falcons but dropping two region games to the Coolidge Bears and Florence Gophers.
“Our effort was there but we were down some players,” said Globe head coach Wes Sukosky. “Our effort is better, and we are actually staying in the game. We played a good game against Alchesay and took home a W. We went to Coolidge and it got away from us; today it didn’t get away from us, but Florence is a very good team.”
Globe trailed 3-1 early before the Gophers hit a home run to open a 5-1 lead on the shorthanded Tigers.
“I just want them to compete from the start of the game to the end of the game,” said Sukosky. “When we do that, we’ll start winning more games because we are a young team.”
Sukosky said that confidence is important for his team as they navigate the tough 3A South Central region, which includes the top team in 3A, Valley Christian.
The Tigers travel to face the top-ranked Trojans this Friday for a 6 p.m. ballgame in Chandler.
