Last Friday morning at Globe High School’s Harbison Field, athletes and coaches from Globe, San Carlos, Hayden, Ray and Superior came together for the first annual Copper Combine.
With parents invited to come and watch, the players took part in combine tests including the 40-yard dash and eight-pound medicine ball throw; a skills circuit that encompassed blocking, tackling and block destruction; offensive and defensive position groups; an opportunity to showcase their individual football skills against other players, with evaluation by coaches; and getting to know athletes from other schools.
Globe High School Athletic Director Talmage Hansen said the combine would be a one-of-a-kind event for the Copper Corridor, letting local athletes see how they stack up against their peers, find out who is most athletic and create a baseline for future growth.
