Miami volleyball preparing for new season

Summer heat is not the only thing spiking in Miami, Arizona. Volleyball is two weeks into their open gym summer program and participation is high. With camp right around the corner the volleyball Vandals of Miami are wasting no time in their efforts to prepare for their next season.

Passion. Dedication. Hard Work. Three pillars that head coach Jaymie Swift-Hooke has chosen for the foundation of this year’s team building. “We had a young group last year, a lot of first year players. Freshmen had to step into big roles. With having that one season under their belt they are coming in with confidence,” explained Coach Swift-Hooke when asked about her expectations for varsity volleyball this year. “It is going to be great to see how much they have grown and how much more they will work together as a team.”

The summer programs are not only for varsity players. Sixth grade students Lilliana Light and Autiana Garner are enjoying the open gym, after their first season as volleyball players. Lilliana looks forward to “getting to play more” this next year, and Auti looks forward to games counting” because she plans to make the junior high varsity squad.

The Miami Vandal volleyball program is being prepped to run for the long haul. Young students are engaging in the game, veteran students are finding success and the energy in the gym is palpable. The young varsity squad made their league playoffs last season. Could this be the year that they find a way to win once they are in?
