Lady Vandals suffer close loss against Blue Ridge

The Miami Lady Vandals dropped a tough game against the Blue Ridge Yellow Jackets, 42-35, last week at home.

The Lady Vandals fell behind 11-4 after the first quarter but rallied in the second quarter. Demetria Dosela scored at the 6:27 mark and added another basket to keep Miami close. Areiana Brown got loose for a layup to pull the Lady Vandals within two with 3:32 left in the first half.

Miami’s top player Layla Thompson scored on a putback and was fouled on the play. She missed the ensuing free throw, but Dosela grabbed the rebound and scored to tie the game at 15.

Thompson scored consecutive baskets and Brown added a three-pointer just before the half. Miami led 22-17. The two teams were tied at 28 after three quarters.

Blue Ridge scored early in the fourth to take a six-point lead with six minutes left in the game. Dosela scored but Blue Ridge responded with a mini-run to take a 39-32 lead. Drianna Dosela buried a three-pointer with 1:26 left to close the gap to 41-35, but Blue Ridge held on for the win.

Demetria Dosela led Miami with 14 points in the loss. Miami is currently 2-1 on the season.
