The Globe High School Lady Tigers softball team started their season with a pair of dominating road wins, scoring 40 runs and giving up only four as they notched a 2-0 record.

Traveling to Fountain Hills for the February 27 season opener, the Lady Tigers came away with a 20-4 victory over the Lady Falcons in a non-region matchup. The game was tied at three after one inning, but Globe outscored Fountain Hills 3-1 in the second, then sealed the win with a 14-run third inning.

Senior Khylee Tulk led the Lady Tigers in scoring with four runs; senior Precious Bendle and sophomore Alliyah Curiel added three runs apiece. Junior Kimora Burnham scored twice and batted in four runs for Globe, going 3-for-3 at the plate. Sophomore Aaliyah Hayes and senior Aubrey Lopez also had two runs, and Lopez added three RBIs. The Lady Tigers stole seven bases, led by junior Arianna Gatewood with three. Junior pitcher Teagan Mercier got the win, along with two RBIs and one run. Mercier allowed two hits over three innings, and recorded six strikeouts.

Burnham took the mound for Globe’s second game, a 20-0 non-region victory at San Miguel High School. She had nine strikeouts in four innings, giving up two hits and a walk. The Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Vipers 9-0 in the first inning; then, after a scoreless second, they notched five runs in the third and six in the fourth.

Four Globe players scored three runs each against San Miguel – Tulk, who also hit a third-inning homer and had three RBIs, Curiel, Hayes and senior Kendra Corso. Bendle and sophomore Ashton Leverance had two apiece. Gatewood contributed four RBIs on two hits, including a top-of-the-fourth triple that brought a pair of runners home.

After two games, Tulk led the Lady Tigers in scoring with seven runs; Curiel was right behind with six. Bendle and Hayes both had five runs, and Ashton Leverance and Corso three. Gatewood and Tulk shared the RBI lead, with five each.

The Lady Tigers played their first 3A South Central game, at Benjamin Franklin, on March 6; results were not available at press time. Their road swing continues with a March 8 non-region game against the Payson Lady Longhorns, then the Joseph City Softball Invitational (March 9-11) at Joseph City High School. Globe’s first home game, a non-region match with Santa Cruz Valley, will be on March 13.
