Lady Tigers fall to San Carlos, finish week 1-2

The Globe Lady Tigers fell behind early against the San Carlos Lady Braves and never recovered, falling 82-22 at home last week.

“It comes back to fundamentals,” said Globe head coach Emily Belvado. “You can’t make ill-advised passes between two defenders, you can’t throw the ball at somebody’s feet. You have to go back to fundamentals and do the basics, but we didn’t do that tonight.”

The Lady Braves used a suffocating defense to grab a commanding 36-5 first quarter lead and never looked back in front of a raucous crowd.

Globe’s second quarter started promisingly when Shanell Francis drained a three-pointer. Not long after, Arianna Gonnie went to the foul line for a one-and-one opportunity, making the first of two.

After a San Carlos basket, Globe’s Myranda Patten scored on a drive with 5:03 left in the half, but it would be Globe’s last basket of the half. The Lady Braves scored the final 12 points of the half for a 50-11 halftime lead and rolled in the second half.

Francis led the Lady Tigers with nine points, off a trio of three-pointers. Kaydance Tober added four points for Globe.

The Lady Tigers had a busy week; after the San Carlos game, they traveled to ALA-Ironwood and hosted rival Miami last Saturday afternoon. Globe defeated the Lady Warriors (50-39) but fell on Saturday (43-38).

Globe is off until the New Year, when they host the Valley Christian Lady Trojans in a 3A South Central region game.
