Lady Tigers fall to San Carlos

Posted

The Globe Lady Tigers dropped a road game against the San Carlos Lady Braves, 66-13, over the weekend.

“On our end as a team, we just gave up too many turnovers,” said Globe head coach Emily Belvado. “You can’t do that against a team like San Carlos that is going to capitalize on the fast break. We didn’t take care of the ball and that was the biggest thing.”

The Lady Tigers had a rough first quarter that saw San Carlos shut them out for a 24-0 lead.

“I think it was nerves because it’s always a big crowd,” said Belvado. “It’s hard to come out here when 99% of your team is from San Carlos or has family members from San Carlos on the other side of the court or in the stands; as a kid it’s tough mentally.”

Globe senior Shanell Francis got the Lady Tigers on the board in the second quarter when she nailed a free throw. About a minute and half later, she scored on a pull-up jumper with 6:42  left in the first half.

However, San Carlos led 35-4 at halftime.

“We weren’t tired, because they are young,” said Belvado after the Lady Tigers beat the Benjamin Franklin Lady Chargers Friday night on a Francis buzzer-beater.

Globe is 2-7 on the season and 2-3 in conference play. They travel to rival Miami today, Jan. 11.

“We are ready to focus on our next game against Miami,” said Belvado. “I am not fond of the two rivalry games each season. I think one is sufficient, but they’re on the schedule twice.”
