The Globe High School wrestling team hosted one last meet before the end of the season last week at Tigers Gymnasium.
The meet featured four teams: Globe, Valley Union, Willcox and Morenci.
“It was a good performance,” said Globe coach Ruben Duarte. “Unfortunately we couldn’t match up the kids with weight classes, but our seniors had a good turnout.”
The Tigers also wrestled at the Tim Van Horne Memorial Invitational at Payson High School over the weekend to finish the regular season. The Tigers now move into the postseason with Division IV, Section IV sectionals at Thatcher High School on Feb. 10.
“Gary Perkins is a sophomore and has a good record right now,” said Duarte. “I think he’ll qualify for state and do good at sectionals. Esteban Garcia and Ryan Szpotowski are both the same weight class but they share mat time. We’ll have to have a wrestle-off for that spot."
