Congratulations, Globe High School Pom team for bringing home the AIA Division IV Pom State Championship. The State Qualifier was held on Friday, Jan. 19, and the State Finals was on Jan. 20 at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Phoenix.
The Pom team placed 1st and the GHS Cheer team placed 5th at the State Qualifier on Jan. 19, qualifying both teams to move on to the finals the following day.
The GHS Pom team was determined to bring another state championship title back to GHS. They invested countless hours preparing for the competition. When they walked onto the performance floor, they were determined and left no crumbs behind. They invested their hearts and souls into this performance. Their awesome performance conquered the state championship title and left the judges in awe. This marks a total of six state championship titles for Globe High School Pom team.
The GHS Cheer team also put in countless hours preparing for competition. They were ready and excited to compete. Unfortunately, they faced a huge obstacle the night before competition. When they were practicing the routine for the last time before leaving the following morning for competition, one of the team members was injured and broke her ankle. Therefore, the team had to change their routine and stunt groups that night, to be ready to compete the following morning.
This impediment, which may have defeated other teams even before stepping onto the mat, didn’t obstruct this team’s determination to succeed. They placed 5th on Friday at the State Qualifier and thus moved onto the Finals on Saturday.
Once again, they performed well. Unfortunately, they had some deductions from the judges that kept them from capturing 3rd place in the state. These deductions dropped them to 5th place. Their perseverance and teamwork are amazing. This team has a unique team unity, one that every coach would die for.
We would like to thank GHS Principal Mike Mrozinski and GHS Assistant Principal Audra Gutierrez for their continued support, and GHS Athletic Director Talmage Hansen for his support and for taking a pep bus to cheer us on at competition. We are thankful to every student who went on the pep bus to support us.
