The San Carlos Braves picked up a 65-51 region win over the Miami Vandals last week at home. The Braves are 11-10 on the season at press time.

“We played well, especially in transition,” said San Carlos head coach Terry Antonio. “We tried to get touches on the ball in our press and that led to some of our layups.”

The Braves took an 18-10 lead after the first quarter behind eight points from Keyon Martin down low. Tayshaun Polk also added four points on the offensive end.

San Carlos extended their lead to 37-21 at halftime, as guard Leshawn Browning dropped in 10 points in the quarter.

The Braves turned to Polk in the third quarter as they opened up a big lead behind his 11 points. San Carlos led 55-31 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Vandals outscored San Carlos 20-10 in the fourth quarter behind Jaykob Armenta, who scored eight points in the final quarter.

“Region play is so important because we  spend the whole first part to get ready for region play,” said Miami head coach Ken Vargas. “We are getting better but we just aren’t there yet so we have to keep working.”

Polk led a trio of Braves in double figures with 17 points while Browning and Martin finished with 14 points apiece. Armenta led Miami with 12 points, Eric Troglia added 11 and Aidan Guthrey finished with 10.
