Due to pitching difficulties, the game between the Braves’ junior high school softball team and that of Superior in Superior on Tuesday, Feb. 26 was distorted and cut short at the end of the fourth inning, with the score standing 12-3 in favor of Superior.
Things started well enough with Ariana Ayze, No. 6, getting on base with a single, stealing second and finally making it home on No. 2 Jaynae Newman’s double.
The Lady Braves took the field in the bottom of the first and the pitcher, Newman, was able to throw the first batter out at first. But after two walks, the Lady Panthers scored a double which brought in the first runs. Two more runs walked in before the last Superior batter was forced out at second. Newman had gotten the second out by catching Superior looking.
With San Carlos back at bat, McKenzie walked and got to second, but Marian Olivar was thrown out at first. Patten and Robertson struck out. The bottom of the second inning saw another Superior run, making the score 5-1 Superior.
In the top of the third, San Carlos scored two runs on a single by Ayze, a triple by Newman and a steal by Olivar. The bottom of the third turned into a walk in the park at the expense of Newman and her replacement No. 20. Superior went through their batting order plus one and scored six more runs.
In the bottom of the fourth, Superior scored twice more to bring the final score.
The Braves, depleted by grade checks, look to be able to hold their own if they can pitch more accurately.
