GLOBE — The Globe Tiger Football program continues to grow, now in the second year under head coach Nathan Morales.
Assisting this year is Joe Barajas, Spencer Hansen, Jake Valinski, Chris Richardson, and Bobby Armenta.
Over the summer the football players hit the weights four days a week, completed the Round Mountain Rock Challenge, painted the “G” red, white and blue as a way to thank the men and women who serve and have served this country.
Evenings in July the high school players would volunteer for CCYS Flag Football as officials for the games Monday through Friday.
They were able to attend three different skills camps this year; a 7-on-7 National Guard Camp in Florence, one at NAU, and New Mexico State University.
Coach Morales is pleased with the senior leadership from the young men who have stepped forward from last year; he is excited to see what we’re able to do as young men. Be the Champion of life; doing the right thing in the community, the classroom, and then it will transition to the field. To be a champion it’s what can you do for other people not how many awards you can get, but to be a change in the community.
The Tigers schedule is five home games and five away, with the first home game being the notorious rival between Globe-Miami for the battle of the “Copper Kettle” on Friday, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. Homecoming is the following Friday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m.
