Under the lights at Harbison Field Friday night, the Globe Tigers had their first loss of the season, falling 43-6 to the Tombstone Yellow Jackets in a non-section game.

The Yellow Jackets scored early on a rushing touchdown for a 6-0 lead. After a penalty on Tombstone erased the successful extra-point try, the Yellow Jackets were successful on a 2-point conversion and led 8-0. They added another score and extra point for a 15-0 halftime lead.

The Tigers lost a pair of fumbles in the first half, one near the Yellow Jackets’ goal line as the Tigers were driving for a potential score. Freshman Corban Bejarano, who rushed for 9 yards on four carries, provided Globe’s lone touchdown in a 28-6 second half.

Trentin Goss, a junior, was Globe’s leading rusher with 65 yards on 18 carries. The passing game was less effective, as sophomore quarterback Jaeger Franco went six of 17 passing for 29 yards.

Heading into next week’s Copper Kettle game at Miami High School, the Tigers stand at 3-1 and still lead Section 2A Black with a 1-0 record. The Vandals are currently 0-3 after a 56-21 loss at Chandler Prep on Friday night; the Copper Kettle match will be their first section game.
