MIAMI — Miami High School wrestling is hitting the mats preparing for their upcoming season.
Coach Andre Blake back for his second year so the students are accustomed to his techniques. There are no seniors on the team this year but with the 12 dynamic freshman and his retuning Juniors, Blake is excited to see what they are going to accomplish.
Ken Griego is helping on the team with the Mandatory Study hall for the kids.
Everyday from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. all the students are required to attend as part of practice. Academics, being eligible to participate, but more importantly is going to college. He wants the students to have decent enough grades for scholarships.
After 4:30 p.m. the conditioning and mat time starts. Blake also has the assistance of Joe Cruz and Tony Grainger.
This year Miami will host two separate home meets.
The first one will be a scrimmage on Tuesday, November 21 against High Desert Middle School.
This match is to prepare the wrestlers for their meets and won’t count for anything.
