There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial for Audrey Opitz on May 22 at 11 a.m. Service will be held at the High Desert Middle School Auditorium in Globe.

Audrey served this community for many years, starting at the young age of 18 when she came from Wisconsin to teach on the San Carlos Reservation. She would return in 1972 with her family to once again teach on the San Carlos Reservation, and eventually moved to East Forks to teach on the White Mountain Reservation. Later on she would move to Globe and continue to serve the community in many ways. She was Director of the Gila Community Food Bank for 27 of the 30 years she was with the organization.

The Head Start Board was only one of the committees she served on. She was an active member of the Globe Lions, and was on the Advisory Board of Gila County Action Programs as well as the Gila Regional Council of First Things First until her passing.

As a member of the community she received numerous awards during her time in Globe including Outstanding Community Service Award, Golden Service Award and the prestigious Lions Melvin Jones Fellowship Award as well as the Elks’ Citizen of the Year Award.

Audrey touched many lives and her family invites you to share in the celebration of her astonishing life.
