Aimee Hockaday, Jessica Garcia and Stella Lopez of the Miami girls’ basketball team all earned postseason recognition for their play during the 2017-18 campaign.

Hockaday, the Lady Vandals’ only senior, was named First-Team All-Region for the 2A South Region. She led the region with 13.8 points per game and placed second with 11.3 rebounds per game. She also contributed 1.8 steals and 1.4 blocks per game.

“Aimee’s leadership, scoring and outstanding all-around play were so important to our team,” said coach Marc Marin. “Every game, we could count on her to make our team and her teammates better.”

Garcia ran the point for Miami and produced a stellar sophomore season. She filled up the stat sheet by averaging 3.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.8 steals and 2.8 assists per game. She led the 2A South Region in steals per game and placed 12th in the state. She also was second in assists in the 2A South Region and 13th in the state.

Lopez was Miami’s second-leading scorer as she put up 6.8 points per game. The junior shooting guard also averaged 1.9 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game.

“Jessica contributed to our team in so many areas of the game, and her handling of the point guard position improved greatly as the season progressed. I am excited for her final two years,” Marin said. “Stella’s outside shooting gave us an extra dimension on the offensive end. I am looking for her to be a leader next year when she is a senior.”
