Posted

Cornelia Jean (Grout) Hilton died January 26, 2018 at the age of 94.  She was born January 12, 1924 to David Arthur and Ruth Stewart Grout in San Diego, CA.

The Grout family farmed in Tolleson, where Cornelia and her five siblings grew up.

Cornelia married Walter Hilton in 1943, and they had three children:  Lee (Peggy) of Tucson, Randy (deceased), and Susan Ashcraft (Robert) of Tempe. In addition to Walter, Lee, and Susan, Cornelia is survived by her brother, Bud Grout (Gerry), sister Virginia Twitchell, five grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.

Walter and Cornelia made their family home in Globe for over 50 years before moving to Tucson in 2006. Cornelia worked for Gila County Guidance Clinic and for First Presbyterian Church, was a long-time member of the Globe Book Club, and helped with countless projects at church and in the community. Her many talents included playing the piano, cooking and baking (even wedding cakes), entertaining in her home, and generously caring for others.

A private family service will be held at a later time.
