Catalina “Katie” Vega Valenzuela, age 92, passed away on Friday, October 6, 2017 at home surrounded by her children. She was born in Miami, Ariz. to Fortunato and Antonia C. Vega on November 25, 1924.

Katie worked at the Air Craft Factory in Tucson, Arizona, Bob’s U-Save and the Mity Nice Bakery in Miami. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was married to Vicente Valenzuela for 62 years and looked forward to being with him again.  In addition to devoting her life to her family, she always demonstrated to her children about being faithful to God, to always pray, and family values.

She always kept busy crocheting, doing crafts or embroidering.  In her younger days she was always lucky at bingo and was a skilled Skip Bo cardplayer at home up until about 3 weeks before she passed away.  Vince and Katie spent 18 years as camp ground hosts at Benny Creek in Greer, Ariz.

They made countless friends from all over the United States.

Katie was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Samuel and Joe Gutierrez, and her sister Lorena Reade. She is survived by her brother, Santos (Josie) Vega, four children, Martha (Dave) Allen, Danny (Becky) Valenzuela, Irene (John) Yanez, and Eddie (Beverly) Valenzuela. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to her church, Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, 844 Sullivan St., Miami, AZ. 85539.

Funeral Services were held on Saturday October 14, 2017 at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, Visitation was at 9:00 a.m., Rosary at 9:30 a.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m.  Interment followed at the Pinal Cemetery in Central Heights.
