Billie Perino, a long-time resident of Globe, Arizona, passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at her home in Globe.

Born Billie Marie Mauzy on December 21, 1929, she spent her first five years in Jerome, Arizona.  Her family then moved to Miami, where she spent her childhood.

She attended Miami High School where she was a cheerleader and a member of the state championship tennis team. Decades later, she was inducted into the Miami High School Sports Hall of Fame for her activities during high school.

After graduating from high school in 1947, Billie attended nurses training at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix. She graduated in 1950 and was certified as a Registered Nurse in 1951.

After moving back to the Globe-Miami area, she worked as an RN in all of the local hospitals and in various doctors’ offices for many years. She was then asked to start Gila County’s first home health care service. She continued to run the program as it moved to Catholic Social Services until her retirement at age 65.

Billie loved her family, and enjoyed family camping trips when her children were younger. She enjoyed visiting the casino and was even quite lucky from time to time. She was very active and loved to walk, read books, and she loved her friends and socializing. She had a wicked sense of humor and loved to laugh, maintaining her sense of humor until the end. She loved animals, sitting outside daily with dog treats for neighbors walking their dogs. She was a very active member of the St. John’s Episcopal Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband D.D. Perino, her children Mark Lyons, Kristine Lyons, Patrick Lyons, and Dale Perino.

She is survived by her son Larry Perino (Leslie), daughters Paige Perino, Terri Perino (John Phillips) and Maryl Perino Blackwell (Steve), niece Roxanne Shute McInturff, nephews Tim Shute and Richard Shute, as well as 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She also left behind her loving caretakers, Pat Dodd and Debbie McGallion.
