Bill Stubbs, 94

Posted

Bill Stubbs, 94, crossed over to a new location on March 26, 2017 at home. He was born in Harshon, Missouri. He was the son of William Eckles Stubbs and a Cherokee Princess, May Phillop.

Bill worked as a truck driver, which was one of his true loves. He worked for Southwest Forest Industry in McNary, Arizona as a De-barker. He also worked at Pinto Valley Mine as a heavy-duty mechanic, on the shovels. After retiring, he worked for the U.S. Forest Service along with a variety of other jobs. Early in life, he worked in construction on the Panama Canal until they figured out that he was only 16 years old and they sent him back to the States.

Bill enjoyed LIFE, especially dogs, cats and chickens, along with all kinds of animals. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and driving around out in the hills. He also really enjoyed peaches, a really good BBQ pork steak and gentlemanly flirting with women. He loved his family and loved going to church.

He served his country proudly as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army. He served in WWII in Switzerland, South Africa, Italy, and trained in Leadville, Colorado during the harsh winter. He was part of the 10th Mountain Division. Many stories were told about how he packed Howitzers over the Swiss Alps using mules.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings; wife, Mildred; son, Billy; grandsons, Josh and Lewis.

Bill is survived by son, Darrell Stubbs and daughter-in-law, Kelly; grandchildren, Nathan, Alicha, Michael, Bo, and Chris; great grandchildren, Michael, Courtney, Stephen, Mark, William, Dharma, Abram and Sid; and his grand-animals, Brandi and Tiger. Close family friends include Mark Foster and Johnna Kemper, along with many, many others.

Celebration of Life will be held on April 8, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Central Heights Baptist Church. Potluck celebration to follow. This is a Celebration of Life, not a funeral. Black attire not required.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Central Heights Baptist Church for scholarships for children to attend church camp. (Bill would appreciate that!)

Assisting the family; Lamont Mortuary of Globe.
