Alma Grayce Voelkel, 98, of Gilbert, Az., (formerly of Globe, Az.) passed away on Friday, Oct. 1, 2021 at LivGenerations at Agritopia, in Gilbert. Funeral services were held at Heritage Lutheran Church, in Gilbert, on Saturday, October 16 at 1 p.m. Interment will take place in Millersburg, Iowa at a later date.
Alma was born in Prairie View, Kan. on Aug. 18, 1923. She was the youngest of three children to Andrew and Gertie Van Oenen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Benny” Voelkel. The couple had four children, Trudee, Fred, Marie and Jim, and many grand, great-grand- and great-great-grandchildren.
Alma retired from teaching music in both the Millersburg, Iowa and Globe, Az. school systems. She was renowned for her music programs, as well as being a girls’ basketball coach in Iowa.
Friends and family will remember her as a strong Christian woman, who loved travel, dessert and coffee. Alma was always involved with children.
Alma had the best care provided at LivGenerations at Agritopia and by her children. Special thanks to all the staff at LivGenerations at Agritopia and Sun Crest Hospice.
