Readers thank first responders for rescuing dog

Posted

Dear Editor,

Our dog, Cody, went missing Saturday, February 18 at 7:45 a.m. We discovered him in a 40-foot mineshaft in Copper Hills at 8:45 a.m., howling and treading water.

We called 911. Men from the Sheriff’s Department and the Globe and Tri-City Fire Departments answered the call. Despite the difficulty of access, they carried the heavy equipment to the site. The rescue was further impeded by a hive of aggressive bees in the shaft.

By 1:30 p.m. Cody was safely back with us.

Mayor Al Gameros shared his pride in our fire departments. He further mentioned how grateful he is for the many grants the city has received to update their recovery equipment.

We are now more aware than ever of the fact there are many dangerous, obscure and unprotected mine shafts in our area.

Thank God for the professionalism, teamwork and prowess of our emergency responders!
