Hidden treasure uncovered in Miami

Last month the Town of Miami uncovered a stretch of the original concrete road on North Keystone Avenue, stripping off the asphalt that connected it to the avenue’s historic bridge. Councilman Mike Sosh brought up the idea at the March 27 Town Council meeting, where it was suggested that Town Manager Alexis Rivera investigate the possibility.

The work continued last week on Gibson Street, with another segment of the original concrete road that Rivera said the town planned to keep. The project is being done by Town of Miami staff, with assistance from Arizona Department of Corrections laborers. Rivera said the current section of the work was expected to be complete by May 5; after that, the town will turn to Keystone Avenue between the bridge and Live Oak Street. A similar road project waits in the wings near Bullion Plaza.

In the near future, the town aims to start renovating the historic Keystone Stairs. Rivera said they hoped to start work on that project, which will be handled by a contractor selected by Central Arizona Governments, by the end of this May.
