Phoenix-based Freeport McMoRan has been awarded the Copper Mark for its PT Freeport Indonesian operations safe production practices at the Grasberg Copper Mine. With this latest honor Freeport has achieved the Copper Mark at all 12 of its copper producing sites globally.
According to the company, the Copper Mark is a comprehensive assurance framework that is designed to demonstrate the copper industry’s production practices. To achieve the Copper Mark, each production site is required to complete a robust independent external assurance process to assess conformance with 32 environmental, social and governance requirements.
Freeport McMoRan Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard C. Adkerson said he was pleased to report that all of the company’s sites have been validated by the Copper Mark. “As the operator of 9% of the world’s copper production, we have a longstanding commitment to safe and responsible production practices,” he added.
