While public attention has been focused on the 60-unit Hill Street Project, Upton’s LLC has quietly brought 4,000 square feet of rental units online in the historic Upton’s Building on Broad Street. Given the shortage of available housing in the Globe – Miami area, this is a “gusher.”

According to what Chad Bonfanti, one of the partners, was told, the project was the first renovation of upstairs apartments on Broad Street. The 3 studios, 1 1-bedroom, and 5 2-bedroom units feature open and varied floor plans with off-street parking, modern kitchens and new bathrooms. Rents are expected to range from $600 to $875 per month.

The owners acquired the building in February 2022, and are bringing the upstairs units on line by the end of April. Bonfanti is in touch with Globe Zoning to determine whether additional apartments can be built at the rear of the first floor. The front area of the first floor would be reserved for commercial use.

Bonfanti said plans for other projects in the area depend on whether something shows up.
