On Thursday July 27, 2017. Officers were dispatched to United Jewelry on North Broad Street for a burglary alarm. An eyewitness saw a subject break the front glass to the business and then flee when the alarm sounded.
The witness was able to get a good description of the subject and the direction of travel. Officers responded to the area and began searching for the suspect. Officers located a subject matching the description at Devereaux St. and Sycamore St. The eyewitness identified the subject that officers had detained. The subject was arrested and booked into the jail for attempted burglary, criminal damage and resisting arrest.
On Saturday at approximately 2:50 am, officers were dispatched to the Habit Smoke Shop, located in the Fry's plaza, for a burglary alarm indicating front window breakage.
As officers were approaching the location, two subjects wearing back packs were observed running from the area of the alarm and entering Dave's Fast Stop property. Globe PD officers attempted to make contact with the two individuals; however, they ran away on foot. Officers made chase and both suspects were caught after a short foot pursuit.
Both suspects were juveniles (13 years old). Officers were able to contact the business owner who provided security video footage of the burglary. The video clearly shows the juvenile suspects that officers apprehended committing the burglary. All items taken from the business were recovered with an estimated value of approximately $1000.00. Both suspects were referred to juvenile court for the charges of burglary 3rd degree, possession of burglary tools, and criminal damage. Each subject was released to their parents.
Recently there has been an increase in burglaries in Globe. The Globe Police Department has been working these crimes and has identified suspects in several cases. The availability of security video footage is a key piece of evidence that can help us solve these types of crimes. The security footage in this case is a great example of how business owners can help the police catch criminals.
