Steve Harvey from NASEP 2019-2020
Steve is a member of the San Carlos Apache Tribe and graduated from San Carlos High School where he was involved with San Carlos Apache Tribe Youth Council, student council as Student Body President, cheer, researchers club, Future Farmers of America, National Honors Society, varsity softball as a manager, and Health Occupations Students of America. During his time in high school, he was on the Braves Honor Roll and received the Award of Excellence, Principals Award, J.O.M Honors Award. Steve also placed 1st at the Gila County Science Fair. Steve plans to attend Eastern Arizona College in the fall to complete his general studies. His advice for continuing students is, “Take pride in how far you’ve come. Have faith in how far you can go. And always remember to enjoy the journey! :)” Steve would like to acknowledge everyone who has been apart of his life, for sticking by his side, and encouraging him to be the best version of himself.

The Native American Science & Engineering Program (NASEP), at the University of Arizona, is a free year long program designed to provide Native American High School Juniors and Seniors with a vision of a career in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) fields; connects students with academic professionals and industry representatives from STEM related interests; and catalyze the student’s motivation to complete chemistry, physics, and pre-calculus before graduation high school.
Through one on one college preparation coaching with university affiliates, students learn how to effectively prepare for the college admissions process and are exposed to different STEM career paths. The introduction to the year-long program begins in the sum, with interactions continuing throughout the year via email, phone call, text message, mail, and social media that can be accessed through their awarded technology device.
This year they canceled their NASEP Closing Banquet in which they normally recognize their cohort for their accomplishments and the continuation of their educational goals.
They will begin recognizing their students virtually by honoring them on social media, instargram, Facebook, and Twitter and on their website nasep.arizona.edu.
