Miami Council holds back-to-back meetings

Posted

Back-to-back meetings filled the Miami Town Council’s schedule for April 10.

A work session for the 2023-2024 proposed budget led off the evening, with Town Manager Alexis Rivera presenting a projected budget based on expenditures of $4,470,065 (not including grants). Projected revenues would be $2,059,093. After discussion, Council agreed to submit the final proposed budget for formal approval at a later regular meeting. Because the budget was not on the April 10 agenda, it could not be considered that night.

Due to the work session adjourning a few minutes early, Mayor Angel Medina called the following regular council meeting to order on time.

Joining other towns and cities nationwide, Council passed a resolution to proclaim April 23-29 as National Library Week to celebrate library outreach and the dedicated library professional.

In a related action, Council approved closure of Keystone Avenue from Sullivan Street to Gibson Avenue on Saturday, May 13 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a sidewalk sale fundraiser sponsored by the Friends of the Library. The former librarian at Miami Memorial Library, Delvin Hayes, explained that the sale would supplement the traditional May book sale at the library and bring people to downtown Miami. A $10 donation would be requested from each person setting up a table.
