Letter from Mayor Al Gameros

March 16, 2020

Dear Residents,

On behalf of the Globe City Council and our city staff, I want to share the actions we are taking to keep our city healthy while ensuring delivery of critical services to our residents. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve in our country and our Globe-Miami-San Carlos community, our top priorities continue to be the health and well-being of our residents, our employees, and doing our part in preventing further spread of the virus.

Our city staff continues to meet on a daily basis to monitor the information and recommendations being distributed by the public health officials. We have established internal policies to protect staff in the upcoming weeks. Our public safety departments, Police and Fire, have established guidelines and procedures based on recommendations from the CDC and the Gila County Health department. They also have been in contact with state officials to ensure the city is provided with sufficient personal protective equipment to protect our first responders as they treat others. As of Monday, March 16th, we will be closing our Public Library, Active Adult Center, and Besh Ba Gowah Museum to help decrease the exposure to our most vulnerable group, the elderly. We will continue to keep our Meals on Wheels program up and running. We will also offer bagged cold lunches to our seniors during the day at the Active Adult Center between 11:30 a.m. and noon, using a drive by method to avoid any further risk.

Because of the panic of spread of the virus and possible isolation, it has left some of our community members without some daily essentials. I urge you to be aware and vigilant in helping to identify anyone that needs assistance and to please reach out to the City, the County, non-profit, or faith-based organizations that can aid them. Now more than ever, our community of giving and caring for people is needed to help us get through this crisis. Our Council continues to rely on the expertise of our staff as they monitor the needs of our community and take additional actions as needed as this threat evolves. We will continue to provide updates and recommendations on our City website and Facebook page.

I want to thank all our residents for their patience and support during this time of uncertainty. Together we can get through this.

Sincerely,

Mayor Al Gameros

City of Globe
