In March, students at Charles A. Bejarano Elementary in Miami, jumped all over heart disease and stroke by participating in Jump Rope for Heart. The students raised $2,231 for the American Heart Association, which funds research, programs and education to fight heart disease and stroke, the nation’s number one and number five killers.
“I am so pleased with the success of this year’s event,” Coach Tera Reisner, Jump Rope For Heart coordinator, said. “We all had a lot of fun, and the kids enjoyed learning about the importance of physical activity and how they can play a role in saving lives. We are looking forward to doing this again in the future.”
Principal David Pastor also rewarded the students who raised at least $25 with a piece of duct tape that would help tape him to the cafeteria wall during lunch.
“He was a great sport about it and the kids were super excited about taping him up,” Reisner said.
Jump Rope for Heart is a program that promotes physical activity and heart health through jumping rope. It is co-sponsored by the American Heart Association and SHAPE America-Society of Health and Physical Educators.
