Globe — Postcard perfect weather greeted visitors this weekend for the Globe-Miami Chamber of Commerce’s 33rd annual Historic Home and Building Tour. More than 500 visitors were on hand to view the nine stops on the tour.

Visitors were driven from the historic train depot in downtown to each stop. Besides the six homes on the tour, the Noftsger Hill Inn, the Marr building undergoing renovation on Broad Street and the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts and Pieces of Friendship quilt show were highlighted. With six homes on the tour, several of which had never before been on the tour, visitors were treated to everything from what can be done with a home in sad disrepair, to historic adobe structures to stately Craftsmen homes.

At least two renovation projects still underway promise future Home Tour stops to see final results. Visitors were delighted with the homes on the tours; they commented they loved the innovative ideas used in renovations and how the furniture and home décor showed off each stop to its best advantage.

The tour showcases some of the best in Globe area history and architecture and the homeowners and business owners, as well as the Center for the Arts and Copper Country Quilters, are to be thanked for their enthusiastic participation in the event, one that requires weeks and weeks of effort on their part to get ready for having hundreds of people walk through the building.

“We so appreciate all the home and building owners who so graciously allow us to put on this tour. Their willingness to participate, along with the many others who drive, host, open doors, sell tickets and so much more, help to make this a win for the area,” said Ellen Kretsch, chamber director. This year the chamber helped in the staging of the Globe Cemetery Tour and Kretsch said she thought the two events were a perfect pairing. And from a local standpoint, she said the only way such undertakings can be a success would be in the volunteer time and effort put forth by the community.
