Globe-Miami Community Concert starts 63rd season

GLOBE-MIAMI — The Globe-Miami Community Concert Association is still accepting memberships for their outstanding 63rd season. It is far from over. The dynamic Run Boy Run band will be coming to town on March 3, at High Desert Middle School Auditorium. They have quite the following. Fans as far as Colorado are expected to attend.

They blend bluegrass, folk and the old-timey American vernacular with touches of classical and turn of the century details. Their four studio albums, including their newest. Their new album, I Would Fly, features three original, harmony-rich songs and an upbeat cover of the Carter Family hit, "Hello Stranger". It’s no surprise that the band counts Garrison Keillor of NPR's 'A Prairie Home Companion' and renowned Irish fiddler Kevin Burke among their growing legion of fans.

The band is brother and sister Matt Rolland (fiddle, guitar) and Grace Rolland (cello, vocals), sisters Bekah Sandoval Rolland (fiddle, vocals) and Jen Sandoval (mandolin, vocals). With three strong female voices, singing separately and in harmony, and deeply rooted familial connection to traditional American music, Run Boy Run didn’t come lately to their sound; it’s in their collective blood.

The unique sound of the band is rooted in the traditional music of the Appalachian South, continuing a sense of innovation in traditional American music put forth by bands such as Nickel Creek, Crooked Still, and The Wailin' Jennys. Run Boy Run continues this journey into music that is dynamic, orchestral, and brimming with beauty. Three strong female voices weave a tapestry of sound, and the award-winning fiddlers cut a path for a tightly formed rhythmic front. Every arrangement is – at its core – captivating.

From winning the band contest at Pickin’ In The Pines (mere weeks after forming in 2009) and a special appearance at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in 2012, to two appearances on NPR's 'A Prairie Home Companion' (host Garrison Keillor was also impressed enough that he penned the liner notes to the band's debut album), Run Boy Run has become a "prevalent force in the desert music scene" (Paste Magazine, “One of the top 10 Arizona bands to hear now”). They've been making fans across the U.S. with their open-ended musical approach and dynamic stage presence, and will take that live show back across the country coast to coast this summer and fall.

Concerts will be held either in the Miami High School Auditorium (MHS) and or the High Desert Middle School Auditorium (HDMS).   All performances will begin at 7 p.m.

Schedule:

Run Boy Run - March 3 at HDMS - an award winning country/bluegrass group.

New Odyssey - March 23 at HDMS.

Jared Pierce - April 17, at MHS – a master pianist.  He comes to us from BYU and has performed throughout the U.S. and in Brazil, Portugal and Spain.

Admission to the concerts is by membership. The main benefit of membership is to attend all the remarkable concerts the Association organizes with the Globe-Miami community, in mind. Special rates for students and for families help make the concerts available to everyone.  The membership cost is as follows:  Adults - $40; Students - $10; Families - $90; Single Parent Families - $50.  Memberships are available on the evening of the concert, at the desk at Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center, at the White Porch in Globe, or by mailing in a membership form from the brochure.  Brochures are available at both the Globe and Miami Libraries, the Chamber of Commerce, both Senior Centers, the Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center, the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts, White Porch, Bullion Plaza Museum and Cultural Center, Gila County Historical Museum, United Jewelers, the Copper Hen and the Galleria in Miami.  More information can be found by visiting the Globe-Miami Community Concert Facebook page or by calling 928-812-1696.

If still unconvinced about what a great deal this is, there are even more benefits to membership.  All out of town guests are welcomed to the concerts free of charge when they are accompanied by a member.  Also, there is reciprocity with Associations in Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado and this entitles members to attend those concerts free of charge.  That $40 membership goes a long way!  Come enjoy the music, meet the performers, and mingle with friends and neighbors.  It's a great family activity!
