GHS Coed Cheer Team places first at Qualifiers, headed to State Competition

Posted

Congratulations Globe High School Coed Cheer Team for bringing home the AIA State Qualifier Division I – III Large Coed Cheer Championship title! They competed on Nov. 23 at Desert Ridge High School in Mesa. This first place finish also qualified them to go to the State Finals on Feb. 2 at Chase Field in Phoenix.

The team faced some challenges before bringing home the gold. The Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) made changes to the placement in divisions of the teams this year. GHS a Division III School was changed to compete against the bigger Division I and II schools. This challenge of competing against bigger schools didn’t hinder their determination to succeed. However, they were additionally faced with a huge obstacle two days before the competition and thus, had to change their routine and stunt groups. This impediment which may have defeated other teams even before stepping onto the mat, didn’t obstruct the team’s determination and path to success. On the contrary, it triggered these athletes to go above and beyond. It required them to put in additional hours of practice and preparation to be ready for competition. Coach Linda Noriega said, “Their perseverance and team work was amazing! Every member of this team performed their absolute best. They not only qualified to go to state, but also brought home a State Qualifier Championship Title.”
