“The whole world exists between 2,000 and 7,000 feet and in Gila County, you can get from here to there in about an hour,” Gila County District 2 Supervisor Tim Humphrey said.

A marketing plan that captures the vast, unique assets of Gila County as a destination for tourism and business was the topic of a recent work session of the county.

“Gila County is thrilled to be working with Cameron Davis on a marketing plan that will help us tell the rest of Arizona what we already know — that Gila County is second to none,” District 1 Supervisor Tommie Martin said.

Davis comes to Gila County with 23 years of experience in the marketing, promotions, and web design. For the past 10 years, he served as Tourism, Recreation, and parks director for the Town of Payson. While at the Town of Payson, he planned, built and marketed www.paysonrimcountry.com, the number one-trafficked website for tourism related information in Rim Country.

Davis will work to engage with stakeholders countywide, working to lift up all of Gila County.

“We’re going to build a brand that when people see it, they’ll say, ‘Hey, that’s Gila County! I want to go there this weekend,’” Davis told the board. He’ll develop a full marketing plan as well as a website that in the future should generate revenue to help sustain future tourism and economic development activities in Gila County.

“I’m just happy to see us working on a solution that’s going to benefit the whole county,” District 3 Supervisor Woody Cline said.

Gila County contracted with Davis after he had been selected by the Gila County Industrial Development Authority (IDA).

The IDA had earlier identified the need for a countywide tourism and marketing effort and approached the county for financial support.

“In the long term, we’re hopeful that this project will help build infrastructure for economic development in Gila County,” County Manager James Menlove said.
