City of Globe, Town of Miami declare April poppy month

Posted

The City of Globe and the Town of Miami have both released proclamations designating the month of April as “AZ Poppy Fest.”

The proclamations recognize the “economic contributions made by the celebrations” of the blooming poppies and spring wildflowers, as well as the importance of the responsibility to maintain the health of the yearly poppy blooms.

“We remind our visitors and citizens that the poppy blooms are truly dependent on our winter weather [and] spring rains and thus will bloom when they are ready,” the proclamations read. “Through increased awareness, we can achieve our goal of celebrating and understanding the economic value that our poppies, and wildflowers alike, bring to our region.”

According to the Globe-Miami Region Chamber of Commerce website (www.globemiamichamber.com/azpoppyfest), the annual AZ Poppy Fest, now in its third year, is aimed at celebrating the natural beauty that surrounds Globe, Miami, Roosevelt and San Carlos.

“Each Spring, the golden poppies grace us with their presence, filling hillsides with vibrant color and brightening our sidewalks as they pop up left and right,” the website reads.

“Located just 90 miles East of Phoenix and 100 miles North of Tucson, there’s adventure to be had across the region. We have a rich mining and ranching history, strong Native American culture, and the best Mexican food North of the border.”
