Miami Junior/Senior High School held a cross country meet Wednesday, Sept. 26, at the Cobre Valley Country Club.
Schools participating were Globe, Miami, Destiny School in Globe; Ray, San Manuel, Fort Thomas, Safford and Horizon Honors.
Destiny swept the girls’ junior high event. Erin Tewawina, Kendra Corso, Tamia Pietila, Kaydence Haverland and Savana Pietila took first through fifth places, respectively.
The Destiny team also made a good showing in the boys’ junior high event, and a Miami runner placed second in the race.
Lorenz Combs, of Destiny; Landon Anthony, of Miami; Jackson Hackett and Bronson Hatch, both of Safford; took first and second respectively, while Destiny’s Calvin Kindelay took fifth place, respectively.
The boys’ and girls’ teams’ were combined for the senior high event.
The high schools competing were Globe, Miami, Ray, San Manuel, Fort Thomas, and Horizon Honors.
Both Globe and Miami High Schools had runners who placed in each event.
In the girls’ senior high event, Victoria Zazueta, of San Manuel; Mycala Stapleton, of Miami; Kayona Gilbert, of Globe; Shanae Dosela of Fort Thomas; and Camille Hudson, of Globe, placed first through fifth, respectively.
As for the boys’ senior high event, Gilbert Pinedo, of San Manuel; Dallin Coleman, of Ray; Raven Stevens, of Globe, and Ryan Tidey, of Miami placed first through fifth, respectively.
Medals were awarded to runners placing in the top five in each event.
