The Miami girls basketball team opened its season with a 26-21 loss to San Tan Foothills on Thursday.
The Lady Vandals forced 43 turnovers and had the lead for most of the game, but they were outscored 10-3 in the fourth quarter.
Jessica Garcia led Miami with seven points and also had eight steals. Shelby Blanco added four points, 14 rebounds and six steals while Estrella Salazar contributed four points and two steals. Jasenia Quezada registered three points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals. Mackenzie Anthony hit a key three-pointer.
On Friday, Miami lost 52-16 to Coolidge. Garcia scored six points and Andria Button scored four.
This week, the Lady Vandals host Ray on Thursday and host St. Augustine on Friday. Both games begin at 5:30 p.m.
