After last year’s cancellation due to Covid restrictions, Old Dominion Days was back last week for a three-day celebration of Globe-Miami’s mining and ranching history, as well as a patriot remembrance ceremony on the morning of Saturday, Sept. 11.
Festivities included a tribute to Donna Anderson and Dorothy Tippett; appearances by Lorraine Etchell, lead actress in the Western movie “The Woman Who Robbed the Stagecoach,” and Western novelist Dawn Newland; presentations
on historical and current mines and ranches; and activities for the kids, including a cupcake walk and fishing pond.
Food and music enlivened the occasion, too – from cheese boats to a Friday night steak fry; on Saturday night Randy
Hawkins brought his chuckwagon from Pima for an Old West-style supper. Concerts by The Globe Centennial Band,
Neto & Imagine and Tumbleweeds added to the atmosphere.
Saturday morning opened with the Patriot Remembrance Ceremony in observation of 9/11, conducted by honor guards from the Globe VFW and Globe High School ROTC.
