At last Tuesday’s council meeting, City Magistrate Judge John Perlman held a swearing-in ceremony for three new Globe police officers. Officer Angel Perez comes from Mesa, Arizona with one year’s experience; Officer Cody Hudson is from Maricopa County and has three years of police experience and also a drug recognition expert (DRE) certified police officer trained to recognize impairment in drivers under the influence of drugs other than, or in addition to, alcohol. DREs are frequently called upon to differentiate between drug influence and medical and/or mental disorders. Hudson can tell the type of drug or alcohol and how long since the subject has used. Officer Jesus Verdugo is from Sommerton, Arizona and has 10 years’ police experience and also comes with qualifications and certifications. He is a DARE officer, SRO, general instructor, defensive tactic instructor.
