On Thursday, Sept. 6, Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office, along with the Gila County Drug, Gang, and Violent Crimes Task Force and the Gila County Attorney’s Office, received information from the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) that a subject in Southern Gila County had downloaded child pornography.
An investigation was conducted, leading to the arrest of 53-year-old Thomas Ray Castaneda, of Claypool. He was booked into the Gila County Jail on 11 counts of possession of child pornography.
Commander Travis Baxley, with the Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division, said that, while the case is still under investigation, he believes no local children are involved.
More information may be released as it becomes available.
The Sheriff’s Office acknowledges the collaborative efforts in the investigation including the County Attorney’s Office and ICAC.
