Sullivan fire origin undetermined

It’s been almost one month since a devastating fire demolished three buildings and five offices in downtown Miami, leaving behind a fresh wound for Miami locals that drive by the hollow structures that remain. Sadly, the answer or cause is left buried in the rubble.

On Oct. 10, Miami Police Chief Keith Thompson and Globe Fire Marshal Joe Bracamonte released a statement stating that the origin and cause of the Sullivan Street fire is undetermined due to extensive fire damage, the size, two of the structures collapsing and the complexity of the fire.

A multi-agency investigation was conducted by Chief Thompson, Fire Marshal Bracamonte, and investigators from the Timber Mesa Fire and Florence Fire departments. Investigators conducted a thorough inquiry into the cause of the fire but after a month of searching found the fire’s origin to be undeterminable.

It was just after 2 a.m. on Sept. 19, when 911 calls started coming in with residents and business owners reporting heavy smoke and giant flames.

Miami Police immediately responded to the area confirming a structure fire at 417 Sullivan St. The fire soon spread to effect other buildings.

Various fire departments responded to the blaze. A total of 40 fire personnel were on site for 14 hours battling the fire.

News agencies from around Arizona came out to report on the massive fire that took several 100-year-old structures in Miami.
