Dr. Victoria Mary Stevens to join Arizona Women’s Hall of Fame

PHOENIX – The Arizona Women’s Hall of Fame honors and pays tribute to the remarkable physician and orthopedic surgeon Dr. Victoria Mary Stevens, the first Native American woman in the state of Arizona to receive the Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Arizona, College of Medicine, in 1976. On Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at 3 p.m. Dr. Stevens’ name will be added to the more than 167 Arizona women who have been inducted into the Arizona Women’s Hall of Fame. Her virtual induction celebration can be seen on the Hall of Fame website, www.azwhf.org.

Dr. Stevens was born in Globe in 1951 to George and Sara Hawkins Stevens. She is a graduate of Globe High  School, Class of 1969. Over a 38-year medical career as a highly respected orthopedic surgeon, and with an expertise in hand and foot surgery and repair, Dr. Stevens influenced the careers of women like her and played a significant role in the development and quality of lives of patients in and around the Globe-Miami-San Carlos-Peridot rural areas of Arizona. She leaves a legacy in her field of medicine.

Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego and the Honorable Katie Hobbs, Arizona Secretary of State, are the Honorary Co-Chairs of the Arizona Women’s Hall of Fame 2022 celebration.
