March 17, 2024, will be a historic day in Globe-Miami: the centennial of the founding of Bullion Plaza School, now the Bullion Plaza Cultural Center & Museum, in west Miami.

Over the weeks leading to that event, the Silver Belt will look back at parts of the building’s history.

Bullion Plaza School was entered into the National Register of Historic Places on Jan. 4, 2001, with the signature of Keeper of the Register Edson Beall. Bullion Plaza was nominated for both its role in the history of public education in Arizona, as a school for Mexican-Americans, and for its neoclassical architecture designed by the firm Trost & Trost.

The registration form noted that its newest outbuilding, a multipurpose building, was dedicated in 1981; connected to the main building by a covered walkway, it contained a gymnasium, stage and kitchen.
