Halloween night, Miami High School football continued its winning streak. The Vandals notched their fifth straight victory with a 48-0 shutout of the ALA-Anthem South Titans at Ragus Stadium.
Miami dominated the game from the start, building a 29-0 lead in the first quarter. Senior quarterback Abram Castaneda scored the Vandals’ first two touchdowns, one on each side of the ball. Castaneda found the end zone on a long run, then, playing on defense, took an intercepted pass all the way. Miami added 12 points in the second quarter and 7 in the third for the final score.
Castaneda also threw a pair of touchdowns, to Noah Combs and Deray Mathis. Aiden Goss and Domanik Gonzales each added a rushing touchdown in the rout.
Miami ended their regular season 7-3 and finished in second place in Section 2A Black with a 5-1 record, earning a spot in the AIA Conference 2A playoffs. The 10th-seeded Vandals will travel to Phoenix Friday, November 8 for a first-round match with the 7th-seeded Arizona Lutheran Academy Coyotes, who were also 7-3 in regular season play and took second place in Section 2A Gila at 5-1.
