The Globe Tigers and Miami Vandals, coming off home losses to St. Johns and Pima respectively, bounced back with victories on the road Friday night.
In Avondale, the Tigers defeated the St. John Paul II Catholic Lions 40-22 in a non-section matchup.
With the victory, Globe is 4-3; they are 1-2 in Section 2A Black. No stats for the Tigers were available at press time. Their next game is this Friday, October 6, at the unbeaten Pima Roughriders, who lead Section 2A Black at 3-0 (6-0 overall).
The Vandals traveled to Whiteriver for a sectional match with the Alchesay Falcons, and came away with a 20-18 win. Miami quarterback Abram Castaneda went 9 of 10 passing for 208 yards and two touchdowns, including an 80-yarder to Joal Pena, and Noah Combs hauled in four passes for 86 yards. The 2-4 Vandals are 2-1 in Section 2A Black, along with Alchesay and St. Johns – whom they will visit October 6.
Friday night in San Carlos, St. Johns followed up their win over Globe with a 60-0 shutout of the San Carlos Braves, another 2A Black team. No stats for San Carlos were available at press time.
The Braves (0-6, 0-2) will look for their first win this Friday, when they face the ALA-Anthem South Titans (0-7, 0-3) in another section game in Florence.
